Title: Hope (still thinking about the title, maybe "Anew", "Life sucks", "Tomorrow")

Note: Blue color means updated or new

Synopsis: Craig got depressed about life, after the death of his girlfriend (Jenny), making him feel lonely and empty.
Until he gets a car wreck that brings him close to death, and learns to appreciate his life more.
(Jenny dies the same day Craig proposes marriage to her)

01/25/04: We decided that Craig do not propose marrage to Jenny during the flashbacks, at the beginning, just showing
Craig that he has the plan for the evening, showing that he has the engagement ring ready for the surprise, he is
so excited. Creating contrast of Happiness and depression. We see just one shot of a memory, not sequence, giving
the sequence of that memory piece by piece through out the story. Guide the viewer to think that Jenny dumps him,
and runs away with someone else. There is a shot of "Jenny huging Pete" after Craig tells Jenny about the dinner he
is preparing at his apartment, and he makes it sounds very important and needs her to shows up. Jenny suspects
that this is the day Craig is asking her to marry him, she keeps this excitement in her heart and pretends that she
has not have any clue. Agreed to meet in Craig's apartment Jenny heads to her apartment to get ready fo the
evening, and she runs across with Pete, Jenny excited of hapiness shares with Pete her suspition, and Pete hugs
her to congratulate her, sharing with her the excitement. We don't show that much detail at the
beginning, just some shots of "the dinner plan" and "Craig and the ring" follow by the dark space.
While Craig is preparing the table "the hugging shot" is inserted in between Craig preparing the romantic
atmosphere. and Jenny doesn not show up, to make the viewer think that Jenny stood him up and run away with
Pete, common friend with Craig and co-worker.

(Title sequence scene)

Character: Craig, Jenny and Pete (best friend of both Craig and Jenny)

Art Direction: Creating color schemes to every shot to create mood, objects that gives reference to what Craig thinks
and feels. Lots of composition, Lighting studies.

Effects:

Color: Blue Monochromatic, Craig is black and white during the flashbacks.
Camera: Hand held need to matchmove.

Daily routine where everything is fastfowarded including Craig clothing, objects moving around as the day
passes, but Craig stays in the real time. (Time lapses)
when Creig feels lonely, the whole world disappears, you see empty streets while he is driving, empty places,
etc. to show his state of his mind, what he feels. (The set design illustrates Craig emotion).
Craig sees his girlfriend moving images or her name on the objects like traffic signs, billboards, t-shirt, cups,
stores, magazine, newspaper, etc. The images and text is going to matchmove to match the camera shake.

Dark Space (From his soul perspective (inner self)), Memories or Flashbacks (like Minority Report, see throu
           screen).

Transition: between state of mind, reality (present day) and flashbacks.

The Description here is from Visual Effects Perspective. The structure of the story would be added.
Color theory would be applied to create the scene visually beautiful.

SCENE 1 (Dark Space)

• Starts with the flying memories through the dark space very fast. (Memories like see through screen until you see
Craig sitting in the chair with the spotlight above him. Depressed. Before we meet Craig, we go to see some of
his memories while flying through the dark space. (Title sequence - 30 secs)

Memory 1: happy Moments of Craig and his girlfriend in the beach.
Memory 2: Craig gets a surprise party prepared by his girlfriend.
Memory 3: Craig and his engagement ring. SCENE 2 (Bathroom) • Craig sees one of the memories, the camera turns 90 degree to see the other side of the screen that turns into the bathroom where Craig is looking at the mirror. (one shot has the bathroom sink view while Craig is washing his face. When he wipes off the mirror and sees his girlfriend, in the mirror, that she is behind him, , he turns she is not there. It makes the transition to his memories or flaskback. After he turns back and touches the mirror the camera zoom in inside the mirror and getting closer of his face to show his reaction and then the camera quickly turns 90 degrees toward his back and zoom out and we see him walking toward the dinning room. SCENE 3 (Dinning Room) • Walks through dinning room, the place is a mess objects all morph into romantic setting of Dinning room clean with a sentimental atmosphere, such as the position of each object changes. . It shifts into a clean dinning room showing him preparing a romantic dinner, just waiting for his girlfriend, while he is drawing a portrait of her on the paper. Many cuts in between of "Jenny and Pete together having fun" and Craig waiting. Suddenly the door bell rings, he thinks is his girlfriend, he runs fast to open it and drops the paper. The Camera follows the paper that falls into the floor. (Craig see himselft in his flashback). • Back to reality, camera zooms out from drawing as we see the present day Craig walk through the messy dining room to leave for work. Emphasis on the long length of time that he has been sad. Trasition to a close up of copies coming out from photocopier. Like zoom out from the dinning room out of the copies. SCENE 4 (His office) • Standing at copier machine, while making copies for work we see Craigs perception of his world, his state of mind. As he makes copies he looks down to see that his drawing of his girlfriends portrait is coming out of the copier symbolizig how heavy a weight her passing is in his mind. • Everyone moving fast around him • Friend stops by from fast to real time, but is shunned away by him, looks at photo of his girlfriend on desk. (Transition to a scene where his girlfriend get run over by a car and dies. has changed) Suddenly Craig emotionally throwing everything on this desk away including the photo, showing his suffering. Transition, zoom in to the picture frame of Jenny on the floor and zoom out in Graig's Living room, that there is a same photo on the table, where Craig the same night a phone call that makes him cry out. (Make audience understand that that is Jenny calling him that she wants to break out with him, but in reality there is the phone call telling that Jenny is death) SCENE 5 (At Work - Office) • Camera transitions from Craig on the pavement to Craig in a ball under his desk at work. Camera zooms out to show his office. Craig gets up from the floor. Friends approach him to ask if he is okay. He sits at his desk and looks over at the photo of his girlfriend. He looks disoriented and depressed. Pete stops by concerning about him, but Craig gets aggresive with Pete. Some time lapse shots SCENE 7 (Living Room) Night time • Empty livingroom with strong shadows, sitting on the floor (state of his mind). Flashbacks (Scene 5) • Get messages from concerned friends, but ignores them. The livingroom transforms into a furnished room while he hears the messages • Goes to sleep. Transition to next day. He slept on the couch SCENE 5 (On the Street) • Accident scene: Few minutes after the encounter with Pete Jenny rides bike away so happy and so excited to be with Greg that evening, distracted by her thoughts of Craig asking her, "Do you want to marry me", smiling.... in love she doesn’t notice approaching traffic. She is hit by a car and is knocked to the ground. Craig later arrives at the scene terribly upset and shaken, he curls up into a ball on the pavement. The camera zooms in on him. back to the living room (mixture between his state of mind and flashback, Craig wishes he could stop the past) SCENE 8 (Living Room or Bedroom) Next day • Goes through same morning routine. Go to bathroom stare at the mirror, close up of the reflection and zoom out from the rear window, Driving to work. (Time lapse) SCENE 9 (In his car) Drive to Work (State of mind, see empty streets) • Distracted by his girlfriend images on the billboards, hallucinating see her name and stuff from his recent past on billboards & sides of buildings. Even on the streets walking. • Get into an accident (No exactly see the crush) Transition to Dark Space. Fade to black. SCENE 10 Dark Space • The spotlight, light is going down slowly, voice overs. • His surroundings become darker and darker. Spot light from above dims. Craig think negatively that his life is over and it is a good to end without fighting for his life. • In the complete darkness, a swirling light (particles) start to forms from darkness, that makes Craig wonder. The light gives him encouragement and voices of his concerned friends supporting him to be strong. (the new light (particle ball) has born that represents a new beginning, to start anew). His new life is symbolized by light. His sadness lifts. Good lighting from hopeless to hope. The enviroment changes • He follows the light to white room with the light beams coming toward the viewer, and he goes in and over expose. Transition to Hospital. Fades into Friends waking him up as he sits in Hospital bed. His friends voices become stronger. He is filled with hope as he looks up at them and smiles. The End.
